Late nineteenth-century, France was a flamboyant period, filled with new discoveries and astonishing and unexpected changes in many fields, including fashion, architecture, travel and technology. It was during this very period that the Edouard 7 hotel opened its doors for the first time. It was constructed in the Haussmann style of the neighbourhood, and appealed to the exuberant tastes of a wealthy clientele through the luxurious and elegant accommodation it offered. In 1877, Edward Prince of Wales, that lover of Paris and future king of the United Kingdom, made the hotel his Parisian base from which he could explore the city, admire the view from the balconies, keep up the social whirl at the Opéra Garnier and visit his aristocratic friends who lived in that area of the city.

A unique concept: the Couture hotel

Re-launched in 2009 as a 4-star Couture hotel, the Edouard 7 offers 69 bedrooms, including 7 suites and 3 junior suites on three Couture floors, and four Edouard 7 floors, each with splendidly bold decoration in a mix of nineteenth-century style with contemporary elements. Its renovation embraced an artistic concept unique in the world of hotel design: the overall theme is Couture, the universe of highest quality fashion. Each space in the hotel has been conceived as a silhouette, or mannequin, to be elegantly dressed in a manner that one might expect after meticulous study of Edward VII’s personality, life, history, travels, loves – and, indeed, lovers.
